For this self-driving trip in the American West, we chose to stay one night in Page, then head to Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend the next day. The hotel we stayed at, Page Garner by IHG, is an excellent choice in Page.

This article unveils the Garner by IHG lodging experience, sharing the service upon our early morning arrival, room types, and the complimentary classic American breakfast. It’s a highly cost-effective accommodation option for visiting Antelope Canyon.

Popular chain in Page, it’s recommended to book in advance. Offers 24-hour check-in, extremely friendly for travelers arriving late at night after a long drive.
Unbeatable location (only 8 minutes to Horseshoe Bend). Rooms are equipped with a large desk and high-speed Wi-Fi, providing ample space for work or organizing luggage.
Must-try breakfast DIY American waffle maker! Just outside the hotel is the stunning red desert landscape, and it’s only a 10-minute drive to Antelope Canyon, minimizing energy costs.

Page Town: The perfect base for exploring Antelope Canyon
Why should you stay in Page, AZ?
If you’re planning a road trip on the Grand Circle in the American West, Page, Arizona is a strategic point you can’t overlook on the map. This is because world-class wonders like Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend are located here.

There are two reasons why we didn’t choose to start from Las Vegas. First, we booked a morning tour at Antelope Canyon and were worried about missing it if there were any delays.

Secondly, the drive from Las Vegas to Page takes 4-5 hours. Although most day tours start from Las Vegas, they are led by professional drivers, and I was concerned about my ability to handle the drive.
Ultimately, we decided to stop in Page, and later realized it was the right choice.
Geographical location: A stopover on the 9-hour journey from Los Angeles
This trip was quite crazy. We drove east from Los Angeles, with only a brief stop in Las Vegas for a meal (we bought Gordon’s fish and chips), making the total drive 9 hours long.

Finally, we arrived in Page late at night and checked into Garner by IHG (formerly known as: Baymont Page Lake Powell).
I found this hotel on Booking, attracted by its excellent location, making it a perfect stopover for this long journey.
It’s just a 5-minute drive from the famous Glen Canyon Dam and offers free breakfast, with 24-hour check-in available, making it an ideal choice for flexible road trippers.

Hotel lobby and services
By the time we arrived at the hotel, it was already 11 PM.

After a 9-hour drive, I was really struggling to stay awake on the last stretch, almost biting my own hand to keep alert.
Seeing the hotel lights in the pitch-black red earth wilderness truly gave a feeling of being ‘rescued’.
Even though it was the Christmas holiday, the hotel lobby seemed deserted, completely empty without a single tourist.

The front desk staff were still very friendly and professional at 11 PM, assisting us with check-in. This was a huge plus for travelers after a long drive.
Spacious double room, large space, and a big table.
We stayed in room 112 on the first floor this time.
Spacious area and an extra-large double bed.

The room is very spacious. Besides the extra-large double bed (though I wonder why the pillows are placed upright?), there is also a small single sofa, perfect for lounging and scrolling through your phone when you don’t feel like showering XD.

The overall decor is simple and cozy. The facilities show a bit of history, but everything is clean and tidy, making the stay very comfortable.
Large desk
When booking this time, I paid special attention to one detail: the desk.
It’s a bit sad because I had an unmovable meeting scheduled before the holiday, requiring me to attend an online meeting during Taiwan’s working hours.

The double room at Baymont Page Lake Powell not only offers ample space but also features a truly large desk, unlike those small round tables that can only hold a cup of coffee.
This allowed me to comfortably set up my laptop and successfully complete the early morning meeting.
Bathroom and amenities

The room’s bathroom is equipped with a bathtub, which is a great pleasure for those who have been driving all day in winter, allowing them to enjoy a soothing bath.

As for amenities, the hotel provides the Dove series.

Perhaps due to the long drive and spending some time working late at night, I can almost say I fell asleep immediately, sleeping straight through until morning.
So it’s hard to fairly judge whether the bed was comfortable or if the soundproofing was good XD
Free breakfast, DIY American waffle maker
The next morning, I woke up and headed to the restaurant for breakfast. The hotel offers a typical American-style breakfast, simple yet filling.

The self-service area offers crumbled bacon, American-style scrambled eggs, various cereals, toast bagels, and donuts with what looks like a thick layer of frosting (as a Taiwanese, I’ll pass on this section first, it’s just too sweet).

But what’s more special is the series of American waffle machines!

This was a fresh experience for me after coming to the United States!

The hotel provides self-service waffle machines, where you take a paper cup to fill with batter, pour it into the machine, and flip it to time. After a few minutes, hot, crispy-on-the-outside, soft-on-the-inside waffles are ready.
(The following days of my stay had them too, I ate them for 4-5 days straight, and found it really fun XD)
Compared to those cold breads, freshly made hot food is especially precious on a winter morning.
Public Facilities and Surrounding Environment
I arrived at the hotel late at night, and the next day I took a tour around the hotel’s surroundings.
Gym
Although the main reason for coming to Page is for outdoor activities, the hotel still has a small gym.

The space is not large, but it is equipped with all the basic equipment.
If you have a morning exercise routine or want to stretch after a long drive, this place can meet your needs.
Magnificent red earth landscape
The scenery around the hotel itself is a major attraction.

Page is located on the Colorado Plateau, where every snapshot captures the magnificent red rock terrain.

Stepping out of the hotel in the morning, the air is cool and refreshing, with the vast wilderness and red earth as the backdrop. I took a special drive around, experiencing a sense of wilderness that is absolutely unattainable in Taiwan.
Conclusion: Is Baymont Page worth staying at?
Overall, Garner by IHG may not be the kind of luxurious resort you would fly to just for the hotel stay, but it is the ideal ‘recharging station’ on a road trip around the American West.
For Taiwanese travelers like us who are on long journeys and may even need to work during the trip, it offers three irreplaceable values:
- High Stability: The standardized services of chain hotels ensure you won’t be disappointed even if you arrive at 11 PM.
- Work-Friendly: The spacious desk and stable Wi-Fi saved my early morning meetings.
- Excellent Strategic Location: After a good night’s sleep and a DIY waffle breakfast, you can reach Antelope Canyon or Horseshoe Bend in just 10 minutes by car, without the stress of waking up early to catch your schedule.
If you’re looking for a clean, conveniently located, and reasonably priced accommodation in Page, this hotel is definitely worth adding to your booking list.
Recharge here and be in your best shape the next day to witness the divine beams of light at Antelope Canyon.
