2019 Bohol Island Accommodation, Panglao Island Accommodation Recommendations.
This Cebu trip took a backpacking route, and Glamping Alona was where we stayed the first night. We slept in a tent made of bamboo, with no air conditioning, only a fan. It’s like a paradise for backpackers, featuring a swimming pool, billiard table, and a small bar. The best part is it only costs $300 per night, making it a very cool accommodation experience!
Before We Begin

Glamping Alona is a backpacker hostel. Although there are double tents, you still need to share the bathroom with other backpackers. In the mixed dormitory, you sleep in the same room with others.
This time, I wanted to bring Penny along to experience backpacker life. Although there’s no air conditioning, the tents have poor soundproofing, and there’s no hot water for showers, the place is beautiful. At night, you can see the stars. Visiting this small island of Panglao is a great experience (in my opinion).
Introduction to Glamping Alona & Location

Glamping Alona is located on Panglao Island, just a five-minute ride from the bustling area. It’s a luxury camping-themed hostel, and I was deeply attracted by its tropical landscape.

Facilities

In the center of the tents is the reception and the hostel’s common area, where you can dine, use computers, and enjoy all-day meals and drinks. You can also book island tours and diving courses at the reception.

The site features a swimming pool for water fun, complemented by the island nation’s landscaping. Many foreigners lie by the pool sunbathing and drinking beer, making for a truly relaxing afternoon.
I originally thought the hostel would only attract young people or backpackers, but there are quite a few families here as well, which is quite unique.

Besides the pool, Glamping Alona also offers a pool table, board games, and darts. In the evening, the hostel transforms into a small bar when the lights come on, offering a different kind of charm.

Penny and I had a showdown at this pool table all night, and as expected, I was thoroughly beaten by the Little Pool Queen of Tamkang.
At night, there were many stars in the sky. There were no other shops near the backpacker hostel, giving it an otherworldly feel.
Glamping Alona Mixed Six-Bed Room

This time, I stayed in a mixed six-bed room, but there were only four of us actually staying. There wasn’t much interaction with the neighbors; one went to bed early, and another came back very late. However, the Filipino tourists in the tent next door sang late into the night, creating a very joyful atmosphere.

The tent was simply decorated, similar to a typical backpacker hostel, providing sheets and towels. There was no air conditioning in the tent, but fortunately, Cebu in October isn’t too hot, and the fan provided a nice breeze.
The only issue was the snoring from the neighboring bed. I’m a sound sleeper and wasn’t affected, but Penny was quite disturbed. This kind of accommodation isn’t suitable for light sleepers.
Glamping Alona Accommodation Review

The next morning, you can tell from this photo the difference between a good night’s sleep and a restless one.
Thanks to my girlfriend for being willing to spend a night here with me. Staying at a backpacker hostel has many inconveniences, but I think experiencing a different style of travel is a very interesting experience.
