During my travel itinerary in Cebu, Moalboal is definitely the most unforgettable town for me. Besides the breathtaking sardine run, there is also a place that feels as warm as home — Pig Dive Hostel.

For this Cebu island tour, I specially arranged to stay at this backpacker hostel in Moalboal, run by a Taiwanese coach, before returning to Cebu City. Upon arrival, I was amazed by the stunning white container house and industrial design! It’s my top choice for Moalboal accommodation recommendations.

Pig dive hostel location

On the fourth day of our journey, after watching whale sharks in Oslo, we took a 2.5-hour drive to this Taiwanese-run Pig dive hostel in Moalboal. The hostel is situated between Moalboal city center and Panagsama Beach, providing a free shuttle service, making it very convenient whether you want to find food, shop at the supermarket, or head to the beach to see the sardine run.

Exterior of Pig Dive Hostel

What made me immediately book a stay was the stunning white container exterior! Just opened this July, the blue and white containers perfectly complement the blue skies and white clouds of Moalboal, giving off a complete vacation vibe.

Passing through the front desk to the accommodation area feels like discovering a hidden paradise. The accommodation area is made up of four large containers, with two double rooms on the first floor and a mixed six-person room on the second floor. There’s also a rooftop where you can lie down and stargaze, as well as a communal kitchen. The environment is kept very clean and stylish, and this architectural style is truly refreshing.

Throughout the entire guesthouse, you can see the owner’s creativity and attention to detail. After staying for several days in “Filipino-style guesthouses,” it felt like coming home XD
Pig dive hostel services

The thoughtful services at Pig dive hostel include wireless internet, parking, a communal kitchen, night security, a free shuttle (to the city and the beach), and an adorable hostel dog named Bao Bei(?).
To book a One day tour, simply register and pay upon check-in. On the day we checked in, we signed up for a snorkeling trip to see the sardines. The coach partnered with the hostel was incredibly nice and even took many videos for us!

Additionally, the owner is a diving instructor. After this trip to Cebu, I’m really eager to learn diving and hope to find time to do so soon.
Comfortable double room (includes private bathroom and breakfast)

We stayed in a double room at Pig dive hostel, which included a private bathroom and complimentary breakfast the next day. The room’s style extends the container house exterior of the hostel, featuring a white color scheme complemented by wooden and concrete flooring, simple and elegant.

The room is very spacious, with enough space to open two suitcases, and hangers are provided for drying gear after water activities.

The double room has its own private bathroom. I really like the design of the washbasin; it combines a rugged industrial style with a touch of cuteness. The hot water for showers is stable, and there’s a hairdryer in the room (highly recommended).
Freshly made breakfast

If you stay in a double room, you’ll enjoy a complimentary freshly made breakfast the next day. After waking up, head to the kitchen where the staff will prepare two slices of toast, bacon (or ham), and a fried egg per person, along with unlimited freshly brewed black coffee and tea.

After days of hastily eating before early morning water activities, being able to bask in the morning sun in this coastal town, enjoy a hot freshly made breakfast, and then go snorkeling to see the sardines is truly a super, blissful experience!
Pig dive hostel Backpacker Hostel Common Area

The space at Pig dive hostel is quite spacious. The owner mentioned there’s more land at the back where they plan to expand with a swimming pool (so exciting). The highlight is the white container in the common area paired with Moalboal’s exclusive sunshine, making it perfect for photos. Compared to other B&Bs or resorts, it offers a unique atmosphere.
Shared Bathroom

If you stay in the backpacker room (mixed dorm for six), you’ll use the shared bathroom. The bathroom is kept very clean, with the floor regularly cleaned and no standing water, and it has great lighting.

A particularly thoughtful touch is the provision of hair dryers, which were not available in the other Philippine B&Bs and hostels we stayed at earlier.
Public Kitchen & Dining Area

At the center of the accommodation area is an open kitchen and common area where guests can cook, chat, use their computers, etc. It’s like an outdoor lounge. The small kitchen may look simple, but it’s quite well-equipped, with all the usual pots and pans, and the owner even brought in a ‘Tatung rice cooker’ XD.

Absolutely love the evening atmosphere, with the warm yellow lights, music playing, and the coastal town breeze blowing… If you’re in the mood for a late-night snack, there’s a mysterious little attic sandwich shop next to the hostel (highly recommended by the owner). Grab one and pair it with a bottle of beer for a perfectly relaxing evening.
A Hostel with Warmth – Pig dive hostel Accommodation Experience

To share some final thoughts, this Cebu trip wasn’t originally in our plans, so the budget was tight. We initially intended to stay in Moalboal for two days and go waterfall jumping, but we returned to the city a day early (accidentally overspending on meals).
Over the course of six days, staying at Pig dive hostel was our favorite night. The owner’s enthusiasm in sharing stories about life and interesting happenings in Moalboal kept us captivated. Even when we were catching the bus back to the city the next day, they had staff take us to the bus station and checked in to ensure we arrived safely, exchanged money smoothly, and reminded us to save money for the departure tax. That kind of “warmth” is an unforgettable experience for us.
