2020 Cebu Korean BBQ, Cebu City Korean BBQ, Monster Grill Reviews.

Monster Grill was our last meal in Cebu City before heading to the airport. This Korean BBQ boasts 399P all-you-can-eat, a great location, and credit card acceptance, making it a tourist-friendly Korean BBQ spot. However, after dining, we still felt… Taiwanese restaurants are more impressive XD.

Name: Monster Grill
Address: Salinas Dr., Lahug, 6000 Cebu City
Business Hours: 10:00 AM ~ 05:00 AM the next day

Location of Monster Grill

Let’s talk about the location of Monster Grill because it’s closely related to why we chose it for our last meal in Cebu. As you can see from this picture, it’s right next to the famous massage spot Tree Shade SPA (owned by the same owner)!

Feeling refreshed after the massage, we didn’t want to move any further and decided to enjoy our last dinner of the Cebu trip right here.

The exterior of Monster grill is stylish and modern, with a large banner outside advertising an all-you-can-eat BBQ for 399P (which is exactly what drew us in). The interior features an industrial style decor, possibly to match the adjacent massage parlor. The operating hours are quite long, but there aren’t many customers outside of meal times.

Monster grill Menu Introduction

Although it’s advertised as all-you-can-eat, it’s quite different from the all-you-can-eat BBQs in Taiwan. Spoiled by Taiwan’s various 32-item $599 deals, we assumed it was an all-you-can-eat for various meats and snacks. Only upon entering did we realize that the 399P all-you-can-eat banner specifically referred to “pork belly” all-you-can-eat.

Worried about getting tired of pork, we decisively opted for the couple’s set meal instead.

The couple’s set meal is 890P (about 360 TWD), which includes two pieces of pork belly, marinated shrimp, and unlimited side dishes. We also ordered a bowl of garlic rice as a final taste before leaving the Philippines.

Besides BBQ, the back of the menu also features some hot pot options, but the prices aren’t particularly cheaper compared to Taiwan.

The Last Meal in Cebu: Monster grill Meal Introduction

Monster grill Unlimited Refillable Side Dishes

After ordering the set meal for two, the staff will gradually bring out side dishes. The side dishes here are just like those in authentic Korean restaurants, and they can be refilled indefinitely. There were five kinds of side dishes that day, and it’s uncertain if they change regularly. Overall, the side dishes were impressive, making us look forward to the upcoming dishes.

If you order barbecue, it comes with lettuce for wrapping the meat, served in an adorable bamboo basket, and it can also be refilled indefinitely.

Monster grill banana milkshake

Penny ordered a banana milkshake. I must say, any fruit smoothie, milkshake, or juice from Southeast Asian countries is never disappointing; every drink is made with real ingredients.

I ordered an apple cider. Eating barbecue with beer is a perfect match, and I took the opportunity to use the alcohol to lament the end of the holiday, sob sob.

Filipino garlic rice

Ordered a portion of garlic rice, a quintessential Filipino snack offered in almost every restaurant. Their rice is softer and mushier, but paired with the strong taste of garlic slices, it is incredibly appetizing.

Monster grill combo set

The combo meal arrives with a ring of shrimp crackers on the outside, two slices of pork belly, garlic shrimp, and cheesy corn in the middle. It looks quite impressive when served. I was a bit surprised, though, as I expected raw meat for us to grill ourselves (or for the staff to grill), but it was already cooked in the kitchen when served.

The barbecue at Monster grill is fairly average, not particularly stunning, but not disappointing either. When first served, it smells great, with flavorful barbecue sauce and a generous amount of cheese on top, making it very satisfying to dig into.

However, since it was already cooked when served and continued to heat from below, the last few pieces of meat became quite dry, which was a bit of a pity.

On the contrary, the shrimp with sauce was quite satisfying. The portion was generous, and the sauce was well-balanced with a slightly salty and sweet flavor. Sprinkled with white sesame on top, it was aromatic, making it feel like the side dish became the main attraction.

Monster grill reviews and insights

Feeling exhausted and ready to head back to Taiwan.

After eating at Monster grill, my thoughts are… Taiwanese food is still much tastier, hahaha. I believe there are even more impressive Korean BBQ places in the city.

It’s not that Monster grill is bad. The portions at Monster grill are large, and the 399P all-you-can-eat pork belly should still be quite appealing to some ‘true meat lovers.’ However, the BBQ is served already grilled, and the quality of the meat isn’t as good towards the end as it is when first served.

But if we had to choose again, we might still eat here on our last night. Its advantages are too obvious, being right next to Tree share SPA. We didn’t even have to carry our luggage; after a massage, we could eat right away, and after eating, we could grab our luggage and head straight to the airport. Although it might seem a bit rushed for the last meal in Cebu, we didn’t have any amazing food in the city this time, so we don’t feel too regretful XD
