How to book a Jeep in Mui Ne? Costs, itinerary, and essential tips

The best way to explore Mui Ne’s attractions is to book a local half-day tour.
The Jeep driver will pick you up at the hotel at 4:30 AM, starting with the farthest White Sand Dunes, then visiting the Red Sand Dunes, Fairy Stream, and Mui Ne Fishing Village. The entire trip takes about five hours, without feeling rushed.
Plus, the driver is excellent at photography, practically a photographer in disguise!

This five-hour half-day tour primarily uses a stylish jeep as the mode of transportation. Note that aside from the front windshield and the rear trunk, the other four doors have no glass. Departing in the early morning brings a bit of chill, so it’s best to wear a light jacket to avoid catching cold and bring a hat to block the wind. Don’t be like me, who ended up with a splitting headache after being windblown the entire morning…
The cost of the half-day tour is about 30 USD per vehicle, with each vehicle accommodating 4-5 people. You can find booking information in online communities, or if you can’t, you can ask the hotel to book it for you.
What time should you arrive at the White Sand Dunes? Off-road vehicle costs and sunrise photography tips

After gathering in the lobby at 4:30 AM, the driver took us to the White Sand Dunes to watch the sunrise. The sky was still pitch black when we set off, and the jeep sped along, bumping vigorously. Under the streetlights, it felt like we were setting off on an adventure.

The drive from the hotel takes about 40 minutes. We arrived at the entrance of the White Sand Dunes, where the parking lot was already filled with many jeeps, each brightly colored and looking quite cute.

This is an expansive area of endless sand dunes. There are two ways to reach the top of the dunes: walking or paying for an off-road vehicle to take you up.
The cost of taking an off-road vehicle is 300,000 VND per person. Considering that we might get lost in the desert if we walked back and forth, we paid for the transport service to have the off-road vehicle take us to the highest point of the dunes.

The back seat of an off-road vehicle can accommodate two people. The driver speeds up quickly, and with the white sand dunes having a height difference of up to 20 meters, the ride is thrilling and fun. However, it only takes about five minutes to reach the top of the dunes, leaving you wanting more XD.

Along the way, you’ll see vast expanses of white sand. Since it’s early morning, there’s no scorching sun, and the entire scenery looks gentle and elegant. This view is vastly different from my impression of Southeast Asia, truly an eye-opener.

I really love the sense of tranquility in this photo.
Upon reaching the top of the dunes, looking at the endless white sand, the distant lakes, and mountains, with the sky still early, standing on the dunes and slowly capturing the scenery with a camera, it was so beautiful it made me want to cry. At that moment, I felt that the long journey the day before to get here was all worth it.

The sand of the white dunes is very clean, and in the morning, it feels cool to the touch. Our group took photos of each other in the desert, wandered between the dunes, climbed, and shot some funny and interesting videos, having a great time.
This spot is also my favorite place on this trip.
How long should you stay at the Red Sand Dunes? Tips for sand sliding costs and photography.

The Red Sand Dunes are not as vast and magnificent as the White Sand Dunes, and with the sun already up, the temperature rises and the sunlight becomes stronger, making photos appear quite harsh.
As soon as we arrived and got off the jeep, many Vietnamese vendors approached us with sandboarding boards for rent. A reasonable price for renting a board is between $30,000VND and $50,000VND.
However, having been up since 4:30 AM and exposed to the wind for two hours, I started to get a headache and didn’t feel up to sandboarding. I just took some photos on the dunes and made a brief stop.
How far is Fairy Stream? A complete record of wading barefoot.

Fairy Stream is another famous attraction in Mui Ne, where you can walk barefoot along the winding stream and admire the yellow geological landscapes on both sides.
At the time, it felt somewhat ordinary, but after organizing the photos at home, I found myself liking them more and more.
From start to finish, there remains an unsolved mystery: the origin of the name ‘Fairy Stream.’ I couldn’t find any information about it online.

We arrived at the entrance of Fairy Stream, where you’ll quickly see bilingual signs for tourists. After walking through the alley for about three minutes, you’ll reach the ticket booth. The entrance fee is only $15,000VND per person, which is very cheap.
At the entrance, many vendors sell drinks, coconuts, and some fruit juices.

Our group took off our shoes and walked in the stream, stepping on the soft red soil. Initially, the scenery was ordinary, with green shrubs on both sides. However, after walking for 15 minutes, we began to see the red soil areas of the karst landscape.

The unique karst landscape of Fairy Stream, also known as karst topography, refers to the geographical landscape formed by the erosion of soluble rocks by water.
Walking along the stream, the magnificent red soil landscape on the left is stunning, complemented by the azure sky on a good day. Reviewing the photos afterward, it actually looks quite spectacular.

Although the karst landscapes around the world are not unique to Fairy Stream, walking in the stream while admiring such a unique terrain is a worthwhile experience.
I didn’t walk to the very end of Fairy Stream on this trip. I turned back to the ticket booth to rest after reaching about 3/4 of the way. Others in the group went to the very end, where there is a small five-meter waterfall. If you have the time and energy, it’s worth a look. The entire round trip takes about an hour.

Mui Ne Sunrise Half-Day Tour Experience

Wondering why the Mui Ne Fishing Village isn’t on the itinerary? Because our flight arrived in Vietnam early the previous morning and we had to set off at 4:30 AM this day. After finishing the Fairy Stream tour around 9 AM, we were hungry and tired, so we skipped the fishing village and asked the driver to take us back to the hotel for breakfast.
Although it was a bit of a pity, we didn’t regret it too much. After all, the focus of travel is not just ticking off destinations but experiencing sights and memories that are moving and unforgettable.
Joining a sunrise half-day tour in Mui Ne, departing from the hotel in a jeep in the early morning to admire the unique sand dunes and the erosive landscapes of Fairy Stream, offers a comprehensive view of all Mui Ne attractions. It’s a very time-saving and effortless way to explore, and definitely worth a visit.

We recommend the “Sunrise Tour”! Although starting at 4:30 AM is tiring, watching the sun rise from the edge of the desert at the white sand dunes is spectacular. The morning temperature is cooler, and the lighting is the softest for photography. The sunset tour is usually hotter and more crowded in the afternoon.
You can hike up the dunes, but the distance is far and the sandy terrain is difficult to navigate.
We suggest renting an ATV at your own expense. Not only does it save energy, but you can also enjoy the thrill of speeding through the desert!
The cost is about 300,000 VND (approximately NT$400) per person, and it’s usually not included in the jeep rental fee.
The entire Fairy Stream requires wading (water depth is about ankle-deep), and the bottom is soft red mud. We recommend wearing easy-to-remove sandals or slippers, and many visitors even choose to go barefoot for convenience.
Most of the tourist jeeps in Mui Ne are semi-open, with no windows or air conditioning. The natural breeze while driving is refreshing, but the wind and sand can be intense. We recommend bringing sunglasses and a hat for sun protection and wind shielding. Girls with long hair are advised to tie it up.
