After all, throughout the journey, whether it’s checking routes on maps, uploading photos, or keeping in touch with family, the internet is crucial! For this trip to Hanoi, I used the SIM card and eSIM service from Way Sim. Let’s start by unboxing the more familiar physical SIM card. The packaging felt very premium upon receiving it!
The orange and white printed packaging features classic travel destinations from around the world, giving you a sense of travel as soon as you hold it.
Flip to the back, and in the upper right corner, you’ll find the countries where the SIM card is applicable, the plan, and the telecom company’s validity period, ensuring you receive the correct product.

After landing, you can effortlessly use the card pin to switch cards and set up the network, making everything very smooth.
Vietnam Unlimited Data – Verizon eSIM Setup
In addition to unboxing the physical Vietnam SIM card, I used an eSIM as my Hanoi internet solution this time.
An eSIM can be considered a “virtual SIM card,” and you won’t receive a physical card. After placing an order, you will receive activation information via email, which is very convenient.

- Receive the activation email in your inbox after ordering
After successfully placing an order on the Verizon official website, you will receive an activation email with a QR code,
indicating that your eSIM card is ready for service.
- Go to Phone Settings → SIM Card → Select Add eSIM Card
- Select “Download New eSIM Card”
- Scan the QR code in the activation email
- Wait for the eSIM card information to download
- Select the downloaded eSIM card and activate the service
The downloaded eSIM card will appear in the SIM card list. Select it to activate.

After activating the eSIM card, the system will ask if you want to switch.
Once you agree to activate, the network service will switch from the physical SIM card to the eSIM.
Enable mobile data and roaming to start using international internet services.

During this trip, I mainly traveled around Hanoi and Ha Long Bay, using a speed test app to measure the internet speed.
Hanoi City Area – Stable and Fast
The Old Quarter, Hoan Kiem Lake, and the airport were my main areas of activity in Hanoi, which are also the most bustling areas of the city.
Verizon’s performance in this busy city area was excellent, with download speeds ranging from 15M to 40M.
This speed made it very smooth to check maps, browse Instagram, and upload stories.
Hanoi Suburbs
When we were watching performances in the suburbs, the speed was slightly affected due to the distance from the city and the large crowds.
However, it was still possible to navigate and check performance information smoothly, making it very useful for travel.
Surprisingly, Ha Long Bay also has coverage
The most surprising part was that Ha Long Bay also had reception!
Before setting off, I was mentally prepared to be without internet on the Ha Long Bay ferry, even pre-downloading videos from streaming platforms on my iPad.
After all, Ha Long Bay is an extremely vast bay, and having no internet reception is very normal.
Unexpectedly, I was able to connect to some networks throughout my trip, allowing me to continuously post updates and share the beautiful scenery with everyone in real-time!
However, I must honestly say that the internet in Ha Long Bay was very unstable and slow. But given that even the cruise ship’s WiFi didn’t always have a connection, having some internet access was enough to quench my thirst for connectivity.
